DAY 1
Le Puy-en-Velay / Laguiole - 207km
Please let us know if you will be arriving the day before.
Depart from Le Puy en Velay to St Privat d’Allier and les Gorges d’Allier. You will then go on to discover the Margeride made famous by the “Bete du Gevaudan” (The beast of the Gevaudan), until you get to Chateauneuf de Randon.
This East to West route will take you through the Lakes of Aubrac, also known as the “Route d’Argent” (or “Silver Road”) due to the reflection of the lakes in the sun. In Laguiole you will be invited to try its famous culinary wonder – Aligot.
DAY 2
Laguiole / Laguiole - 205km
Here you can visit the workshop, forge and museum of the knife-maker Honoré Durand, a craftsman who makes real Laguiole knives. After this, you will be travelling through the Aubrac National Park as far as the Gorges of La Truyère.
All along this route are amazing viewpoints that will take your breath away as you head South to Conques-en-Rouergue, a historic center of the St James Pilgrim’s Way.
DAY 3
Laguiole / Creissels - 190km
The places that you visit on this journey (Estaing, Espalion, St-Come-d'Olt, St-Chely-d'Aubrac, Ste-Eulalie-d'Olt, Saint-Geniez-d'Olt and La Canourgue) are classified as among “the most beautiful villages in France”. You will be able to discover the history of Aubrac since medieval times. Between each of these villages, you will travel along winding country roads bordered by beautiful meadows grazed by the lovely cattle of Aubrac, aptly named “les belles d’Aubrac”.
Not only beautiful, but also geologically fascinating, you will visit the Canyon de Bozouls, the Clapas de Thubiès (-a huge river of stones hidden in the forrest) and also the Sabot de Malepeyre, where legend has it that Gargantua, on his way through La Canourgue, lost one of his clogs !
DAY 4
Creissels / Le Puy-en-Velay - 206km
Don’t choose this day to lie in! Today is a long circuit that takes you through some beautiful scenery.
There are so many evocative names along your way : The gorges of la Dourbie, the Causse Noir and his « corniche », the gorges of Tarn, the Causse of Sauveterre, the Margeride made famous by the “Bete du Gevaudan” (The beast of the Gevaudan)
What more can we tell you… have a good trip!
DAY 5
Le Puy-en-Velay
Your road trip is now over. It’s time to say goodbye after a last breakfast together.
A guided tour of Puy-en-Velay as well as access to the Saint-Michel d'Aiguilhe chapel and the Madonna are possible if you would like to spend more time looking round.
